Something important I've learned yesterday

Last night, a good friend of mine, Mike (who is huge Liverpool fan - prick club... anyways... and he reads my blog too so I put that up on purpose) took me with another 2 frineds out for dinner at Imperial Hotel Restaurant here in Qatar.


The reason he's taking me out to dinner is because it's like a form of payment for services rendered. He's taking some kind of local degree course (self study), and one of the subjects on offer is course of Internationl and Deplomatic Law (Of which I am a master in... I'm sexy, I'm talented and I'm smart too).
The deal is, he needs me to tuitor him (and also help him with his assignments - "help" is a subjective word ey?) and because we are friends, I don't know how to charge him.


You see, I have given such help before to another girl studant and I charged her like US25 per hour, and that was considered normal rate. But of course that was the first and last time, cause I basically don't have time for myself anymore. With all the work, travelling, nighte out, once a week boys night out (which we play cards usually), Frensh lessons, etc, I need some time at home.

But because Mike is a good friend, and because he practically begged me (or stalked me), I had to agree. But the charging part was a tough one. If I had charge him US25 an hour, I'd be quite rich this month.


Anywayssssssss..... so in the end we came to a compromise and payment would be meal at restaurants with friends of my choice along with this wife. So last night was the night.


In the past; Imperial Restaurant food sucks like hell, so I had a little bit of reservation about going there, but because it was a free meal I had no right to complain. So just go along.


I had FRUITY BURGER (dunno why they call it that, cause I didn't see any fruits in my burger), Davis had Lamb Chop, Jessi had Congee , Ziena had Parmesan Chicken (which kept telling us "this chicken very nice.. you want to try?". She repeated that like more than 10 times last night).


And Mike was having Steak and salad, and he made sure that the waitress told the chef to use only LEAN MEAT, coz he was on a strict diet and he's also a fitness freak and goes to the gym almost everyday.


Now, the whole point about this blog today is... the Imperial Restaurant Band - LOS HORIZON from Philipines. It's a 3 piece band - 1 classical guitar, 1 accoustic guitar and 1 double bass. And they are simply excellent.


Mike kept telling them "Hey Play Metallica lah", but they kept smilling at us. As we were sitting right next to where Los Horizon was playing, after every song, Mike and I would say "Play Metallica.... or Guns and Roses".


The leader of the band joked with us "You want the guests to leave ah?"


But what I saw last night from Los Horizon was simple a different class. They were playing Jazzy tunes, and I was impressed with the Chords structure and the Chord Progressions he was playing.

The tunes were so relaxing, and the chords he played was... WOW.... They look ALIEN to me. I kept telling Jessi "Wow. So amazing the chords sound".


During the break he (the band leader) came over and talked to Mike and me, then I kept asking him about the chords he uses and HOW can I learn them.

He told me to learn JAZZ and get the notes from the internet and learn slowly. He showed me a few progressions that I simply could not understand but I WANTED to learn it.


I practically watched him play in front of my seat with my mouth open. I reckon if a naked lady stood in front of me, I wouldn't care less.


Then he told Mike and me, once you learn and understand Jazz and you can play this, you'll realise.........


I will never forget the next 3 words he said to me, but he said it nicely and gently:

METALLICA IS CRAP.


I spent from 0030 to 01.30 in front on my PC last night learning to play Jazz..... so you tell me lah....


Was I affected by what he said??
